The best thing to do to make sue a divorce does not break you is to talk to your spouse and make a pact not to fight for the sake of fighting and to put aside animosities and work towards resolution of all issues.

Also, each time you have an issue that you cannot resolve through negotiation, ask your lawyer how much it will cost to take the matter to resolution in court. I always give my clients an estimate of what I expect a particular legal battle will cost. Sometimes, that will force you to really think about whether that issue is worth the time and expense.
